Bethel College President Barry C. Bartel announced the appointment of Laurie E. Tietjen of Hollister, Mo., as the college's new vice president for business affairs, beginning Sunday.

Tietjen has a bachelor of science in education from the University of Missouri and is a certified public accountant, currently working on her master's degree in business administration from Columbia (Mo.) College.

Tietjen was most recently tax and compliance director and assistant controller for the College of the Ozarks in Branson, Mo.

“In that role, she has applied her skills from accounting and compliance to higher education, including working with human resources issues,” Bartel said. “Her background and skills prepare her well for our VP role and for the fiscal management in the business office as well as the strategic planning we continue to do as a leadership team.”

Tietjen also has been a public accountant in a CPA firm, run her own private CPA business, worked as a compliance consultant for a health-care firm and taught in the public schools.

“After we considered several very strong candidates over the past number of months, Laurie emerged as an excellent match for the position,” Bartel said.

She replaces Lowell Peachey, who resigned a year ago, and Gregg Dick in the interim.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gregg for his very effective work in the interim role,” Bartel said. “Gregg did not make himself a candidate for the permanent VP position but preferred to return to the chief financial officer/controller role, as he will now do.”
