Peace Connections is sponsoring a first-ever Sing Fest in this region to celebrate its 25th anniversary with special guest Wisconsin singer, songwriter and choir director, Sara Thomsen.

The event is from 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4 p.m. June 7 at Trinity Heights Methodist Church, 1200 Boyd Ave. in Newton.

“This event is offered for all people who want to exercise their universal birthright, which is the joy of singing regardless of their musical background,” a Peace Connections news release stated. “We invite everyone who loves to sing, regardless of training or background, to enjoy an experience like this. With Sara as our guide, we’ll learn and sing songs from cultural, spiritual traditions around the world, songs of justice, peace, hope, longing, and songs that are simply fun and full of celebration.

Thomsen is the director of an ongoing choir like this in Duluth.

“At the heart of what we are about,” Thomsen said in a news release, “is coming together to sing in harmony as a means of personal, local and global transformation. Singing opens the heart and re-enchants the spirit.”

Also as part of the 25th celebration, Thomsen will give a CD release concert of “Everything Changes” at 7:30 p.m. June 6 at the above location. Everyone is invited, and donations are welcome.
