Man assaulted with Moon Pies

GALESBURG, Ill. — An 84-year-old man told police he was attacked outside a store with Moon Pies.

The man, who didn’t want to be identified, said he was in front of Michael Farquer 53, in line at a Dollar General store, according to police reports.

He had paid for his items and was leaving on foot when he was repeatedly struck on the back. The man said he turned and found Farquer hitting him with an item inside a bag, which turned out to be a box of Moon Pies.

He returned to the store and asked a cashier to call the police, and Farquer followed him. Farquer then stood to the side, raising and shaking the bag while chanting, “Hi yuh.”

A clerk inside the store told police Farquer seemed agitated when she waited on him, and that he threw a dollar at her and followed the man out of the store. She said Farquer owed the store five cents.

Farquer told police he didn’t remember attacking the victim, but he had spent time in jail for a similar incident a few years ago.

Gator found hanging out near restaurant

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Shawnee animal control officers Tuesday snagged a 3-foot American alligator in the parking lot of a restaurant.

Animal control officers responded to the scene after the gator was reported by an unknown caller, and they quickly captured the gator, taping its jaw shut for safety.

Chris Thomas, administrator of the animal control division, said officials believe the gator was a pet and possibly came from a nearby apartment complex.

The alligator was taken to the Shawnee Animal Shelter. Thomas said state law makes it illegal for anyone to keep an alligator as a pet.

Alligators on average grow about a foot in length for each year of their life. Mike France, game warden for Pottawatomie County, estimates this alligator is between 2 and 3 years old.
