Vernon and Velma Frey of Newton will celebrate 50 years of marriage with their children and grandchildren in Kansas City.

Vernon Frey and Velma Annette Dirksen were married June 2, 1958, at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel. Since that time, they have resided in the Newton area.

Vernon retired in 1994 after 35 years teaching in Wichita. He currently is self-employed as a brick and stone mason and carpenter. Velma is a homemaker and has been employed as an Avon sales representative for 30 years.

Their children and spouses are Ronald Frey of Wichita, Bryan and Megan Frey of Houston, Texas, and Lynette and Kent Erb of Newton.

Their grandchildren are Alistair Frey of Wichita, and Brandon Frey and Nicholas Frey of Houston.
