Francis Johnson, 40, of Newton pleaded no contest Friday to a count of attempted robbery.

Francis Johnson, 40, of Newton pleaded no contest Friday to a count of attempted robbery.

Johnson was the alleged accomplice of Mario Garcia who previously pleaded no contest to charges of attempted aggravated robbery and attempted kidnapping for allegedly threatening a Newton woman with a gun and trying to force her into her car in March 2007.

The woman screamed, and the men fled.

County attorney David Yoder described Johnson as the alleged look-out in the case and the victim as being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Two men were allegedly on their way to rob a Newton fast food restaurant when they happened upon the victim, Yoder said.

Johnsonís case on aiding and abetting aggravated robbery, aiding and abetting kidnapping and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery charges was set for Tuesday, but Johnson took a last-minute plea agreement.

Yoder said he did not know what sentence Johnson will be facing because he did not know Johnsonís criminal history.

Johnsonís sentencing is set for 11 a.m. July 18.
