Storms hit Newton and the surrounding area Sunday, causing significant damage in the area.

A tornado warning was issued for Harvey County around 6:15 p.m. Sirens sounded in Newton at about 6:35 p.m. with the all-clear given at about 7 p.m.

Damage in the area was reported to trees, railroad crossing guards and some buildings. A trailer camper was observed overturned in Walton, where there were reports of building damage and tree damage. Power outages also were reported in Walton.

A flood warning is in effect for Harvey County until 12:30 a.m. Monday.
