Harold Schmidt, North Newton, will celebrate his 97th birthday on July 25.He was born July 25, 1917, to Cornelius and Katherina (Voth) Schmidt near Walton. On May 5, 1941, he married Hazel May Myers Ewert in Hillsboro. She died in June 2006. He graduated from the Walton school district and attended Bethel College. A longtime teacher, principal, farmer and carpenter, he taught at schools in Antioch, Greenfield, Cunningham, Spivey and Norwich. During World War II, he worked in the CPS...
