Newton grad 12th at nationalsHUTCHINSON Newton High School graduate Tyler Rambo, a sophomore at Hutchinson Community College, placed 12th in the shot put at the National Junior College Athletic Association Track and Field Championships Friday at Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson. The Newton High School girls' soccer team got a piece of its own medicine Tuesday on senior night against winless, but scrappy Arkansas City in non-league play at Fischer Field. Newton has normally been the team in a defensive shell, trying to disrupt the opponent's offense. This time, Arkansas City stayed in a defensive position, keeping the Railers from making the runs. The Newton High School girls' swimming team has won a lot of meets this season, but not a lot of individual events. The Railers captured four event wins, including all three relays Thursday, to win the Newton Invitational II at the NHS pool. Newton edged Great Bend 400-359 for the team title.
