Holmes couple to celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

Lloyd W. Holmes and Rose Mary Covert were united in marriage on Sept. 24, 1960, at Friendship Baptist Church in Parsons.

The Rev. Davidson officiated the ceremony. Jeanie Carnahan served as bridesmaid and Henry Covert as best man. A reception was at the home of Kathleen Covert, mother of the bride, following the wedding.

Mr. and Mrs. Holmes will be honored by an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1515 N. Anderson in Newton.

The open house will be hosted by their children, Thomas L. Holmes of Salina, Crystal A. Hempler and husband, Jeff, of Alma, Ark., and Sheryl L. Swanson of Newton. Assisting will be the Holmes’ granddaughters, Cindy Holmes, Mindy Arreguin and husband, John, Jessica Medina, Terra and Ashley Scott, and Kimberly Holmes.

Parking and the entrance to Fellowship Hall are off of 15th Street.

Lloyd and Rose reside at 600 Terrace Drive, Newton, KS 67114.
