Penners to celebrate 50 years of marriage

Ernst and Shirley Penner of North Newton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family gathering Sunday in Wichita.

Ernst Penner and Shirley Eileen Weaver were married Sept. 6, 1959, at Hesston Mennonite Church in Hesston.

Since that time, they have resided in Kansas City, Kan., Shawnee and Newton.

Ernie worked at Hesston Corp., and Shirley worked as a registered nurse at Hertzler Clinic.

Their children are Judy Penner of Wichita, and Tony Penner and wife, Tammy, of Kansas City, Kan.

The couple has three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Shirley volunteered at Newton Medical Center until lately, and Ernie volunteered at several places, mainly at the Et Cetera Shop in Newton.
