Mike and Carol Petitjean celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a five-day family trip in June to Texas.
They met on the campus of KSTC (Emporia State University) in Emporia in 1968 and were married on a hot day on Aug. 17, 1970, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa.
They began their married life journey in Hoisington, where Mike taught and coached at the high school for 11 years. In 1981, Mike accepted a position as secretary to superintendent with The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway in Emporia. Carol finished her education degree at Emporia State University in 1985. In 1986, their family moved to their present home in Newton, where Mike continued to work for Santa Fe Railway. Carol worked as a preschool teacher for 10 years at ABC Preschool. Mike began his present career as a financial adviser with Ameriprise Financial Services in 1991.
They have three children and seven grandchildren. Nathan and Brandi Petitjean live in Manhattan with Riley and Landon. Amy and Steve Harmon live in Emporia with Emma, Payton and Mason Michael. Allison and Jonathan Heather live in Olathe with Quinn and Reese.
